When there is a fight between your mind and heart which one would you follow?
It is a difficult question, is it not so? All our deliberate actions originate from mind; whereas spontaneous actions, from heart!
Deliberate actions often have strategies in it. This is based on the old saying, “No body plans to fail, he simply fails; but nobody simply succeeds, he plans to succeed!” Spontaneous actions come out of emotions and they originate mostly out of our ‘humanness.” We can see the aspects of sharing and caring in them, we can see the wings of ethics and morals fluttering in them.
So which way would you go? People always ask me, “Shankar, how do you manage to connect with so much people and sustain that connection?” and I always tell them, “The route to our mind is through heart. If you cannot touch the heart of your people in the first place, you cannot reach their mind to get the work done!”
What makes mindful leaders, is their ability to use their heart and mind together. The decisions so taken by these people always sustain and such leaders are always respected, accepted, admired and followed….
Those who use only Mind could touch the pinnacle of success in terms of accomplishments. But if you look at them, you would find that they are mostly termed “Strategists” than leaders. On the other hand, personalities like Martin Luther King, Nelson Mandela and our very own Mahatma Gandhi undoubtedly qualify to be leaders, Mindful leaders at that.
The leaders who use their heart and mind together can be seen practicing compassion, kindness, empathy and consideration on one hand and on the other, they apply their intelligence to build ‘working models’ that enhance productivity and make success possible. Such successes are always sustainable.
Do use your head and heart together and you would be a great hit with one and all.
Cheers,
Yours
Shankar.
